How to start a dating conversation without writing “hey”
The easiest first message reacts to something specific in the other person’s profile and makes the next reply simple.
Use one detail from the profile
Comment on a place, hobby, answer or opinion and ask one open question about it. Specific attention feels different from a mass message.
Do not conduct an interview
One question at a time is enough. Add a small piece of your own answer so the conversation has two people in it.
Move from facts to stories
“Where did you travel?” gets facts. “Which trip changed your opinion about a place?” gets a story. Stories reveal more personality and create follow-up questions.
Checklist
- Mention something specific.
- Ask one easy open question.
- Share a little of your own answer.
- If the exchange is good, suggest the next step instead of chatting forever.
