How to build a dating profile that gives people something to reply to
A useful profile shows how you live, what you value and what another person can actually start a conversation about.
Show evidence, not adjectives
“Kind, funny and adventurous” is hard to respond to. A concrete detail — the meal you cook for friends, the route you walk on Sundays, the project you keep returning to — gives the other person a door into your world.
Use prompts as invitations
A prompt works when it makes a reply easy. Good answers contain a detail, a preference or a small story. Avoid answers that could belong to almost anyone.
State your intention without writing a contract
Say whether you are looking for a serious relationship, marriage, dating or friendship. Leave room for chemistry, but do not make the other person guess what you are doing there.
Checklist
- Use recent, recognizable photos when photo profiles launch.
- Write at least two prompt answers with concrete details.
- Name your relationship intention.
- Mention languages and whether international dating is realistic for you.
